There is currently an increase in flu-like viruses circulating in the community. Symptoms can vary, but many people experience fever, cough, sore throat, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, runny or blocked nose, and sometimes vomiting, particularly in children. Most cases improve on their own within 5–7 days, although cough and tiredness can last longer.
How to Manage Symptoms at Home
- Rest and keep well-hydrated. Small, frequent sips can help if you feel nauseous or have been vomiting.
- Take paracetamol or ibuprofen (if normally safe for you – if no contraindications – check with your local Pharmacy if you have any questions) to help with fever, headaches, and body aches.
- Speak to local Pharmacy on products to ease cough and congestion.
- Avoid close contact with others, especially vulnerable people (older adults, pregnant individuals, or those with long-term health conditions).
- Stay home until your fever has settled and you feel well enough to resume normal activities.
